Lindsay Marks Centennial Milestone with Auspicious Event
The City of Lindsay commemorated the 100th Anniversary of Incorporation with a program and reception on the City Hall lawn located at 251 E. Honolulu, February 28, 2010. Elected officials at the local, state, and federal levels offered speeches and proclamations in recognition of Lindsay’s past and current accomplishments. New flags were hoisted on the City flagpoles by Lindsay Boy Scout troop 144. A featured event was the opening of City Hall’s 1936 time capsule, along with presentation of plans to lay a new capsule in 2010. The Lindsay City Council and Centennial Committee welcomed current and former Lindsay residents who joined in the celebration.Lindsay Celebrates Centennial with Community Party at McDermont.
Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010 at 10a.m. the McDermont Field House opened its doors to play host to Lindsay’s 100th Anniversary of Incorporation birthday party. The public was given free admission all day.The lower indoor soccer field was the site of old-fashioned games and contests, music and entertainment throughout the day. Bounce houses entertained the children. Local gift baskets were raffled. Prizes were also awarded for the Orange Bake-off. The day culminated with an evening Centennial Dance.
History Room at McDermont, Feb.27th : A special feature of the Centennial Party was the History Room, where attendees perused historical photos and displays in a comfortable, peaceful environment. Tables, chairs, and refreshments were provided for the special comfort of Lindsay’s old-timers and visiting former residents. The renowned Lindsay High School guitar class performed in the early afternoon. The Lindsay Cultural Arts Council had its scanner and laptop computer available for those who brought their own old photos and Lindsay memorabilia to share. Information on the progress of the Lindsay Historical Museum was also available.
Orange Bake Off: The public participated in the Centennial Orange Recipe Bake-off. Orange had to be at least 1 ingredient in every entry. The categories were: cookies, cakes, pies, and candy.
