My name is Olivia (Rodriguez) Millan. I have lived in Lindsay all of my life. I am the mother of two sons, David and Alec, and the grandmother of three, Noah, Ava, and Alec Jr. My medical problems started in December of 2008 when I had a major heart attack. At that time, I had to have open heart surgery and a quintuple bypass to repair five valves.
Since then, I have had seven more heart attacks. In 2015, I had to have a defibrillator/pacemaker put in, because my heart was only functioning at 35%.
In July of this year, I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in my left breast. After some thinking, I chose to have a mastectomy due to the fact that the cancer was aggressive. I started one round of chemotherapy in October but was told that in my condition my heart cannot handle it any further. However, radiation therapy is needed, so that is the final step in all of this.
It has been a long journey for my husband and sons both emotionally and financially. I feel lucky to have a loving family and friends who have provided spiritual and emotional support. I know that without love, prayers, and support I would not be here. I thank God for allowing me each and every day on this earth to be here with my loved ones. I will overcome this next chapter in my life with the grace of God, because I am a fighter. I would like to thank the Lindsay Helping One Woman chapter for considering me as a recipient. I am deeply honored.
