The upcoming Lindsay Rib Cook-Off, was first on the agenda at Tuesday’s Lindsay City Council Meeting. The cook-off will take place Saturday, November 2, in downtown Lindsay.
According to City, there will be an impressive 40 contestants in this year’s cook-off. Judging starts at noon and the event will conclude at 6 p.m.
In public comment, Denyse Rodriguez was at hand to promote the annual event. Rodriguez is a member of the Lindsay Cook-Off Board.
“We plan this six months ahead. It’s a really great non-profit,” she said.
“I think it’s a great event and the money that they generate goes back into the kids funds and the community,” said Mayor Ramiro Serna. “I think it’s an all around great event.”
Rodriguez said the funds generated go to scholarships, the Healthy Start and youth sports teams, among other local causes.
A major issue of the evening was selection of members for the Lindsay Economic Development Committee.
City Council must approve the members of the committee which will consist of of five Lindsay residents, three city staff members and two city council members. However, Council member Hipolito Cerrros questioned whether or not members on the committee must have to live or work in the city limits of Lindsay.
City Clerk Maegan Peton said two of the applicants are from outside Lindsay. One being from Tonyville and the other being from the foothills outside of city limits; with only three applicants meeting the criteria.
